Former Black Stars goalkeeper Frederick Asare believes Ghana’s World Cup hopes could be shaped by their opening group-stage match against Panama.
The ex-Asante Kotoko captain described the fixture as a crucial encounter that could provide the confidence needed for a successful tournament campaign.
“We only need to start on a strong note, especially in our opening game against Panama. A win in that game will boost the confidence of the playing body,” Asare said during an interview with Akoma FM.
According to the Durban City shot-stopper, momentum will be key for the Black Stars as they prepare to face England and Croatia in their remaining Group L matches.
Asare called on the players to stay determined and maintain belief in their abilities, insisting Ghana has the potential to make a deep run at the tournament.
While acknowledging the difficulty of winning the World Cup, he refused to rule out the possibility.
“In football you never say never. So it’s possible we can win it. Ghanaians just have to believe in the team and have strong faith,” he added.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England and Croatia as they seek to make history in North America.
